Google Add-on "Super Quiz" for grading Google Forms

Flubaroo works well but the knock on it is that students do not get their results instantly. They have to wait for the teacher to share the grades. This could be at the end of the period, end of the day, or maybe even the next day! With Super Quiz, another Google Sheets add-on, students hit "submit" on their google forms quiz and instantly get their results shared with them via Google Drive "Shared with Me" Folder. The spreadsheet works for the teacher, so you can sit back and just let it do its job. No manual sharing of grades for you. Once Super Quiz is set up, it just runs on its own. The only thing for you to do is look at and examine student results, reflect on how they did and make informed decisions moving forward. You are also able to give feedback to students based on how they did through Super Quiz. A nice, but somewhat complicated, feature. Check out the tutorial and maybe Super Quiz is for you.

Working together: Google Forms, Flubaroo, and Charts

Using Google Forms for quizzes/formative assessment is a great way to organize student data, keep it all in one place, and get both an overview and individual view of how your students/classes are doing.  Below are some highlights of Google Forms for quizzes.

*Create a variety of questions using a Google Form.

*Password protect the quiz by forcing students to enter a "password" in order to get to the next page (start of quiz.)

*Change the destination of where responses go to keep all data in one spreadsheet.

*Use the "add on" Flubaroo to grade all quizzes instantly.  Flubaroo can grade multiple choice, true/false and short answer (short answer: student has to type the word exactly how you enter it on the answer key, so this one is a little tricky.)

*Use "charts" to create charts from the student data to get a great picture of how your classes are doing.

Kahoot! to raise engagement!

If you are looking to change things up in your classroom and try a new tool, I'd recommend giving Kahoot! a try. Kahoot! is an engagement dream, a way to focus your students, blend game structure, share thoughts and formally assess them. Kahoot! is an audience response system that works on any device that has internet, as it uses a web browser, not just the Kahoot! app. Laptop, iPhone, iPad, Chromebook, desktop, etc. Kahoot! allows the teacher to give a quiz, a discussion, or a survey. The results can be downloaded and saved. The results give question by questions breakdown, as well as individual results, making tracking and documentation a snap!  
After signing up for a free account, create a Kahoot! quiz. You will add questions and then when you launch the quiz, you will instruct the students to go to kahoot.it and enter the game pin. This connects their device with the quiz you are showing on the smartboard. On their device, they see the four options, which are shapes. They select the shape that corresponds with the correct answer. You can adjust the time limit, the audience, the difficulty and also share it with others. 
Application for Education: Kahoot! is just a tool and it's not about the tool. It's about the learning. So how does Kahoot! help learning? Use Kahoot! to do a short, fun quiz to see where your students are at. The game-based feel to it makes it much more engaging than a centeo quiz or scantron. Engagement can not be underestimated when it comes to improving the learning.  Learning rises as engagement rises. It's a fundamental fact of education and of life.  I'm convinced that if the student knows a Kahoot! is waiting for them, they will be more eager to learn the content and get prepared. They will be eager to see their game-based score as they navigate the Kahoot! quiz. 

You're/Your grammar quiz with Quizbean

Quizbean is another online quiz tool that is smooth, sleek, and easy to use. Create a free account in seconds and you are ready to make your first quiz. With Quizbean, you can set up a class and add your students so they can log into the quiz, which allows you to track their progress. Students can take the quiz without logging in, but you will not see their results. This is an option if you just want to provide some online practice for review. With Quizbean, you can quickly add students to your "class" by having them click a unique link and enter your teacher code. This saves you the time of entering each student's email address yourself. Quizbean gives you many options of sharing the quiz. You can email it, send it to a class that you have set up, provide a url/link, or post it to social media like Facebook or Twitter. The free version of Quizbean allows you to create 6 quizzes and add 52 students. For $5/month, you get 26 quizzes and 101 students. For $10/month, you can unlimited everything. With the budgets coming due soon, this may be something you would like to request.

Kuizza: A great online quiz/flashcard option

Last night, while I was just sitting on a chair, in the dark, starring, I thought about how it would be cool to find an online quiz/flashcard option that kept track of stats. So, after starring for a moment longer, I opened up my Chromebook and did some searching. I found a tool called Kuizza and I am excited to tell you about it. It is of course a free tool. It has a very clean, fresh look and is very easy to use. With your account, you can create quizzes and share them with your students. I will be using Kuizza for review tools, not formal quizzes. Kuizza allows the student to either take the quiz or get the flashcards for the questions. The one thing I really like about Kuizza is that it keeps track of the stats for the students. Students have to simply create a free account (don't even need an email!) and it will keep track of the quizzes they take and how well they do. I think the students will like this because it almost makes it into a video game because they can see how well they are doing and can see the improvements based on statistics. Students do NOT need to create an account to take the quiz, only if they want to keep track of their stats. For the teacher, Kuizza also keeps track stats for each of your quizzes that you create. So you can see the average score, high score, low score, times taken, etc. It does not keep track of individual students though.  Kuizza has many pre-made quizzes to search for, but you can also make your own custom quiz. So, my suggestion for you: go sit on a chair and just stare for a while and think up some good ideas to use Kuizza for. Your students will appreciate it.

Give your students an Online Quiz

I feel that part of our job as teachers is to get our students ready for their future in education, namely college. I know not every student will go to college, but we can start introducing them to things that they will have to do in college as things continue to move towards online classes. One thing that I do with my 6th graders is give them online quizzes and online assignments that they must do on their own. After covering a topic together, I post the link to the online quiz on my website. I give the students 5 days to complete the quiz and they can take it whenever they are ready. Keep in mind, though, that you must be comfortable with the students using their notes because they will, and that's okay because with online quizzes and online classes in college, they can use their notes as well. I took an online class last semester at USF and had many online quizzes and used my notes every time, which the professor said to do. With that said, make the quiz harder so they actually HAVE to use their notes. It is a good learning opportunity and a quick way to see where your students are at with their knowledge. It is also a good way to teach responsibility. You can also provide an online article with a ProProfs quiz to go along with it. To do this, I use a website called ProProfs.com which allows you to create your own quizzes for free and password protect them so only your students can log in. Provide your students with the quiz link and the password and they are on their way.
